The death of a loved one fractures life like no other experience.  Those left behind are bewildered, traumatized and overwhelmed by a flood of emotions.  The journey back to some level of normalcy is long and ever changing and for most people, returning to work is part of that journey.  And yet workplaces are often ill-prepared to support a grieving employee.  Colleagues worry about what to say and do and often respond in unexpected ways.  For the griever, relationships may feel strained and they are often surprised by how difficult it is to function at the same level.  This is even more pronounced when you are the leader, and everyone is looking for you to be “ok”.
